Patrick Mahomes delivers verdict on most underrated quarterback in NFL
Patrick Mahomes believes Kirk Cousins is the most underrated quarterback in the NFL.
Mahomes is preparing for another season with the Kansas City Chiefs after winning Super Bowl LVII in February and has already attended the first days of training camp ahead of a busy pre-season schedule. Before that, though, Mahomes has been promoting the new Netflix documentary ‘Quarterback’. The series stars Mahomes, as well as Philadelphia Eagles star Marcus Mariota and Minnesota Vikings quarterback Cousins.
The series documents all three quarterbacks over the course of the 2022 NFL season. Mariota was with the Tennessee Titans, before signing a one-year deal with the Eagles where he will serve as back-up to Jalen Hurts. And in a video posted by Netflix on Twitter, all three players were asked to name who they think is the most underrated quarterback in the league.
“I think this guy right here,” said Mahomes, while pointing at Cousins. He added: “I mean, if you look at Kirk over here, man, wins every year, puts up great stats. “Did at Washington, does it in Minnesota. Talk to any other quarterbacks in the league, they’re gonna say the same thing.”
Mariota was in agreement with Mahomes with his verdict on Cousins. The new Eagles quarterback explained why, from his own experience, why he rated Cousins so highly. “I agree with that,” said Mariota, after Mahomes’ comments about Cousins. “I’ve been in a few systems and a few coaches, and a lot of the tape that we’d watch was of Kirk. A guy, consistently year in and year out, continues to prove why he is one of the top quarterbacks in the league.”

Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota VikingsCousins then spoke, and was rather humble with his response to the praise from Mahomes and Mariota. He said, with a laugh: “I don’t know how to follow that up. “Anytime you can be complimented by your peers, it beats any compliment coming from anybody else in your life. So that means a lot.”
Cousins then named Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo as his most underrated quarterback in the league. Garoppolo left the San Francisco 49ers to move to Las Vegas, and Cousins believes the Raiders’ new quarterback has proven in the past why he is among the NFL’s best. “I kind of always scratch my head at the Jimmy Garoppolo situation in San Francisco, because I know how hard it is to win in this league, and it seems like every time he goes out there, they win.
"And then they’re moving on from him or trying to draft somebody and trade up. And I’m thinking it’s pretty hard to win double digit games in this league, and that’s all they seem to do when he plays. So obviously, I don’t know all that goes there, but if he does it again with the Raiders, at some point, this guy is just a winner.”
