Sam Hubbard sums up incredible impact Joe Burrow has had on Cincinnati Bengals
Cincinnati Bengals star Sam Hubbard insists no player has made such an impact on the franchise as Joe Burrow.
Burrow was the No.1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft and has already gone on to become one of the stars of the league. Burrow guided the Bengals to two AFC Championship games, winning one in 2022 before losing Super Bowl LVI to the Los Angeles Rams.
Despite not yet winning a Super Bowl ring, Burrow is considered one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL alongside Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen. He entered the NFL with a great deal of pressure having won the Heisman Trophy in 2019 as well as being the No.1 overall pick.
Hubbard is a Bengals fan, as well as part of their defensive line, having grown up in Cincinnati and attended Ohio State. The 28-year-old was the No.77 overall pick in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and has been with the Bengals for the entirety of his career in the league.
Prior to Burrow’s arrival, the Bengals had not reached the AFC Championship game since 1988, which ended in a win against the Buffalo Bills. But that season also ended in a loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XXIII. Given that Hubbard is a lifelong Bengals fan, he is well aware that the franchise has struggled for success in the NFL. And now the defensive end has explained how the arrival of Burrow has transformed the franchise.

“We struggled in Cincinnati for many years,” Hubbard told . “I grew up a Cincinnati fan, and I’m one of the longest-tenured Bengals nowadays. But it all starts with our quarterback. We got a great quarterback that we believe in in Joe Burrow. Having a guy like that that you can always play hard for and you always know you’re in every game, it inspires the whole team.

Self-motivated guys that want to win and have experience winning. And it all just kind of builds on each other.”
Burrow will be busy preparing for his fourth season in the NFL, as the Bengals strive to win their first ever Super Bowl. Pre-season games against the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta Falcons and Washington Commanders are the preparations for the Week One opener against AFC North divisional rivals the Cleveland Browns.
