Loose Women star Coleen Nolan revealed she feared she was "wasting" her "doctor's time" before being diagnosed with skin cancer.

Coleen updated her Loose Women co-stars and viewers on Tuesday on her treatment after sharing the news that doctors had recently found she had the common skin cancer basal cell carcinoma.

She explained: "It was a carcinoma and then the melanoma on my face is something that is pre-cancerous melanoma that if I don't sort it then much later on in life, it will turn to skin cancer. I was trying to highlight the importance of it if you've got anything that you're a bit worried about get it checked."

Host Charlene White revealed Coleen's diagnosis inspired her to follow up on an appointment regarding a unexplained "mark" on her leg.

She said: "I've got like a little mark on my leg and I called the doctor and the doctor referred me and I hadn't chased up the referral to get an appointment but as soon as I read about what you did yesterday, I immediately picked up the phone called and booked an appointment, because I needed someone to remind me how important that is."

Coleen continued: "You feel silly going with something that is not hurting you. ‘There's no pain to it, i's not making you ill or anything, oh, I don't want to waste anyone's time, it’s probably is a bit of eczema.’ But if you don't know what it is, you just need them to say it's fine or if not they've caught it early."

On Monday, Coleen revealed a dermatologist spotted the cancerous spot on her shoulder during an appointment for another issue.

"I went back in and he was very good and he said, 'Look, it's nothing to worry about. It is actually a cancer that doesn't necessarily spread, but you do need to treat it and we'll try it with cream and then the chemo cream and then if that doesn't work, we'll cut it out and give you a skin graft," she explained.

"It was so shocking my first instinct, typical me, was to laugh hysterically because I just thought that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard anybody say because I'm sick of cancer."

Coleen's sister Linda is currently battle incurable cancer while her other sister Anne recently battled the disease and the family lost sister Bernie to cancer 10 years ago.
