Cillian Murphy's family live a different lifestyle to most

Cillian Murphy has always kept his private life behind closed doors, but it appears he's not overly keen to allow the outside into his family home, either.

The Oppenheimer star previously admitted that he 'hates' the fame and fortune that comes with his occupation – and dreams of the day where the two aspects of his job can be completely separate.

The Irish favourite has been married to his wife Yvonne McGuinness since 2004 and they got together after they met at one of his rock band's gigs back in 1996.

The couple have two teenage children, Malachy, 17, and Aran, 16, who they're raising in Ireland. But if the kids want to get in touch with their pals, they'll have to find some WiFi elsewhere.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, he offered some insight into how tough it is for youngsters these days, saying: “I’m a father of two teenagers, I once was young. I recognise how tricky it is for a young person today in society.

“It is a very complex time growing up, things are changing a lot at a very accelerated rate.

“We’re all aware of the effect of the internet online and life online.

“It feels to me like lots of kids, like their life exists inside of this device. The idea that empathy would form part of a curriculum is an excellent idea. Young people are caring and compassionate and willing to be.

“Studies have shown that kids who are taught empathy have their other academic learning helped in a positive way.”

In 2015, they spent £1.5 million on a stunning home in a much desired location in the Monkstown area of south Dublin.

The incredible period home has six double bedrooms as well as a drawing room, and came with a number of original fireplaces.

The property's original listing shows a living area with high ceilings and large bay windows, complete with a beautiful wrought iron fireplace.

The coveted location is only a five-minute walk to the sea and is close to a number of luxurious amenities including yacht clubs, parks and a number of highly sought after schools.

They may not be frantically refreshing their socials or firing off emails at 10pm, but they prefer to spend their time cooking.

Speaking to GQ, he said: “That work-life balance thing is hard. I have an amazing wife and I couldn't do this without her and her understanding. But it is a struggle.“

He continued: “I think it is for any dad whose work takes him away, which it generally does, and which consumes him, which my work does.“

Originally from County Cork, Ireland, the 46-year-old actor started his career on the stage in a number of small plays and independent movies.

As his incredible on stage persona and acting abilities began to garner attention, Cillian was snapped up by some of biggest names in the movie industry and landed starring roles in huge blockbuster movies including Danny Boyle's 2002 horror, 28 Days Later, Cold Mountain, and Batman Begins.

Despite the fact he quickly became one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood in the early 2000's, it was Cillian's triumphant performance as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders that earned him global notoriety and fame.

The Irish actor has starred as Shelby in the BBC series about a criminal gang in Birmingham during the post-World War I period since 2013.
