Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could be set to "underwhelm" their bosses at Netflix as they fight to save their multi-million dollar deal with the streaming giant.

The couple are struggling to move forward with Netflix projects in development due to the ongoing writers' strike in the US.

The setback comes after the couple's Spotify deal collapsed and one of the company's executives Bill Simmons labelled the Sussexes "f***ing grifters" and claimed they struggled to come up with ideas.

Now the couple's productivity is set to grind to a halt again while they are working on more projects for Netflix - through no fault of their own.

Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, signed the deal with Netflix - reportedly worth around $104million (£80 million) - in 2020. The deal led to the six-part docuseries Harry & Meghan, which was released last year. It was "the biggest documentary debut" on the subscription platform.

They later released their second Netflix production, Live to Lead. Unlike their first project, which focused on the couple themselves, it was about other high-profile individuals.

A source has told the Telegraph that it's proving "tough" for them to move forward with new projects in development with Netflix after industry figures were previously “underwhelmed” by their productivity.

The outlet cites the ongoing writers' strike - which has coincided with an actors' union strike - as the cause of the current slump, with the labour dispute in the US having halted some film and TV productions over recent weeks.

The suggestion comes after it was speculated earlier this year that the couple could part ways with Netflix, with it claimed that the platform wanted "some great ideas" moving forward if the pair wanted to take home £40 million in outstanding fees.

Netflix adressed the speculation telling ET Canada in a statement just a few weeks ago: "We value our partnership with Archewell Productions.

"Harry & Meghan was Netflix's biggest documentary debut ever and we'll continue to work together on a number of projects, including [upcoming] documentary series Heart of Invictus."

That project - which was said to be being produced and launched in partnership with The Invictus Games Foundation - is reportedly set to premiere sometime in August.

There's been speculation about their plans following the recent news that their docuseries Harry & Meghan hadn't been nominated for an Emmy Award. The series has however been nominated at the Hollywood Critics Awards instead.

It has since been reported that Prince Harry and Meghan - who have been married since 2018 - have "pieces in the pipeline" as they move forward wtih their careers.
