David Beckham wowed fans as he spoke to Lionel Messi in Spanish - and fans admitted they had forgotten the England legend knew a second language.

World Cup winner Messi has completed his highly-anticipated switch to Inter Miami CF and was greeted by the team's owner as he arrived at a welcome ceremony on Sunday night. As they shook hands, the former England captain could be heard speaking to the club's biggest signing in his native tounge.

“Todo bien?," the 48-year-old asked Messi, which means 'All good?’ in English. Fans have since reacted to the former footballer being able to speak a second language. “Since when does David Beckham speak Spanish”, one tweeted. Another posted: “I forgot David Beckham could speak Spanish lol,” while a third user added: “Damn, I had no idea!” Beckham spent four years in Spain playing for Real Madrid and won the La Liga title in 2007.

During Messi’s unveiling in front of a raucous Miami crowd, Beckham addressed them in Spanish, as a significant portion of the fanbase is Latino. The former Manchester United No. 7 was joined by co-owners Jorge and Jose Mas in giving speeches.

Accompanied by wife and Spice Girl Victoria, the 1999 Treble winner welcomed the Argentine international to the club. “Ten years ago, I started my journey to build a new MLS team,” Beckham began. “I said then that I dreamt of bringing the best players in the world Florida and the great city of Miami.

“Players who shared our ambition to grow soccer in this country, who would inspire the next generation and help build a legacy in this sport. Please forgive me for feeling a little bit emotional tonight. It really is a dream come true to welcome Lionel Messi to Inter Miami. Leo, we are so proud you have chosen this club for the next stage of your career. Welcome to the family.”

Messi, who joined Inter Miami alongside former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets, thanked Beckham and the club for making the process of signing for the club an easy one. “Thank you very much,” the football icon said. “First of all I want to thank all the people of Miami for this welcome, this affection. I want to thank you for the kindness and love that you have given me. This has happened so fast.

“I am very happy to be here, to be with you. I want to thank Jose (Mas, Miami co-owner), David (Beckham) for the welcome. They are making everything easy for us, everything has been spectacular since we arrived. I really want to start training and compete. I want to win for the club to continue growing.

“I hope that you will join us as you have since the season began. I thank my new colleagues for the welcome. I am very happy to have chosen this city with my family, to have chosen this project. I have no doubt that we are going to have a good time. Thank you all very much for this day."
