A heartwarming photo of baby Lydia being carried out of hospital has been recreated 26 years later - by a grown-up Lydia.

Central to the joyful pose is Caroline Boyd who was a student nurse in 1997 as she helped mum Jane Osborn with her baby.

Caroline still works at Poole Hospital in Dorset and after Lydia had baby Reggie there they decided to recreate the scene.

Lydia, now a midwife on the post-natal ward where Caroline is ward sister, said: “When I went for my interview and saw Caroline I thought she looked very similar to the photo. It was lovely to recreate it. Caroline was so enthusiastic about it.”

The new mum has been a midwife for four years after training in 2019, and works on the very same ward where she was delivered as an infant.

Lydia was thrilled to be reunited with the midwife who helped deliver her, with Caroline now the ward sister and her boss.

After discovering the sweet snap from when she was born while looking through some of her mum's things, she decided it would be fun to re-create it when she fell pregnant last year.

“I had already asked a friend who used to work there (at the hospital) who it was in the picture and when I went for my interview and saw Caroline I thought she looked very similar to the photo,” she added.

“It is one of those 'small world' moments. It was lovely to recreate the photo and so nice that Caroline was so enthusiastic about doing it.”
