Man Utd 'make contact' over second goalkeeper target to challenge Onana

Andre Onana won't be the only goalkeeper walking through the door at Manchester United this summer if Erik ten Hag gets his way.

After weeks of negotiations, the Inter Milan No 1 is set to fly to England to complete the deal, after being assured by the Dutch boss that the Red Devils had met the asking price. The deal is reportedly worth £43 million, which includes £5 million in add-ons.

But following the departure of David de Gea, Ten Hag still wants more reinforcements. Once the Onana signing is completed, Dean Henderson, who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, is due to reopen talks over a permanent move to the City Ground, which would still leave United short of back up.

Tom Heaton's proposed move to Luton was blocked this summer, with the Daily Mail reporting the ex-England international has now been given a 12-month contract extension. The 37-year-old has made just three cup appearances since signing two years ago.

But although his deal expired at the end of June, the League Cup winners had the option of a one year extension, a caveat they've now exploited. And yet, Heaton could yet head to Kenilworth Road if the Manchester club can land another new target,

United have reportedly spoken to Urawa Red Diamonds about a move for keeper Zion Suzuki. The 20-year-old, who made his international debut last season, is valued at £5 million by the J1 League outfit.

Suzuki became the youngest player in the history of Urawa Red Diamonds to sign a pro contract, at just 16 years and five months old. He debuted for the first team in 2021, although currently plays second fiddle to the experienced Shusaku Nishikawa.

He was part of the squad that landed the 2022 Asian Champions League, meaning qualification for this year's Club World Cup. Therefore, should a move to Old Trafford not materialise, Suzki could yet line up against United's rivals Man City in Saudi Arabia.

Once his goalkeeping issues are sorted out, Ten Hag's transfer focus will then turn to bringing a new striker into the club. Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund appears the most likely target, after links to Tottenham's Harry Kane cooled amid the north London club wanting a fee in the region of £100 million.
