Patrick Mahomes makes 'best receiver in league' claim ahead of new NFL season
Patrick Mahomes has explained why Kansas City Chiefs teammate Kadarius Toney can be one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
Mahomes himself is regarded as one of the best quarterbacks across the NFL, after helping the Chiefs win Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles in February. It was the second Super Bowl ring that the QB has won over the course of his illustrious career.
Toney was traded to the Chiefs in October last year from the New York Giants. The receiver had been the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but moved to Missouri after a little over one year in New York.
The 24-year-old’s first year with the Chiefs saw him play seven games, including the Super Bowl in February. Prior to joining the Chiefs, Toney had not scored a single touchdown, but he managed three in his first season including one against the Eagles to help win the Super Bowl.
The forthcoming season will be Toney’s third year in the NFL and first full campaign with the Chiefs. And Mahomes is clearly excited to be able to work with Toney as part of his offence in the 2023 regular season.

“I’m extremely excited,” Mahomes told . “He has all the talent and he works his tail off, like I was talking about with [Travis Kelce].
“Obviously, we’re going to try to keep him healthy and on the field as much as possible — because when he’s on the field, he’s a difference maker. I think y’all saw that when he was with us this last year and in the Super Bowl, especially.
“He’s one of those guys that if you can just get the ball in his hands, he makes plays happen.

And I think the sky is the limit. He can be one of the best receivers in this league.”
Toney took part in the Chiefs’ organised team activities in May and then mandatory training camps the following month. He and the rest of the roster will be enjoying a brief break before returning for pre-season in August.
The Chiefs have three pre-season games before they begin their bid to win back-to-back Super Bowls. Friendly games against the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns will be the preview to the Week one opener against the Detroit Lions on September 7.
