Klopp stance on Henderson's Liverpool future amid Saudi transfer interest
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is still planning to have Jordan Henderson at his disposal despite a mega-money offer from Saudi Arabia.
The Reds’ captain is currently being chased by Steven Gerrard ’s Al-Ettifaq. He is currently mulling over a £700k-per-week offer, which would see his current salary quadrupled.
Should he move, it would bring to an end a hugely successful 12-year stay for Henderson at Anfield. He has played a key role in the heart of midfield, remaining a pivotal player since Klopp’s arrival on Merseyside back in 2015. It appears that the German is keen to keep the 33-year-old at the club amid suggestions Liverpool were looking to move him on. According to the Liverpool Echo, officials and Klopp himself are planning for life with Henderson in the squad.
The Reds boss was still expecting to rely on the midfielder for the forthcoming campaign despite adding plenty of competition with the signings of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. As it stands, the Reds are yet to receive an official offer for Henderson, whilst no meeting over the former Sunderland star’s future has been scheduled.
Klopp has regularly praised Henderson during his time at Anfield. Speaking last year, he said: “Nothing we achieved in the last few years would have happened without him, that’s easy to say. There are so many important things you do over a season to keep a group together, to keep a group going in difficult moments, and he is great in that.”

Despite Klopp’s stance, it already appears that succession planning is already in action. According to reports, Southampton star Romeo Lavia is being looked at as a potential third midfield signing.

Whilst Henderson is yet to come to a decision on his future, the Reds could also lose another midfielder to a Saudi Arabian club. As per the Athletic, Brazil star Fabinho is the subject of a £40m bid from Al-Ittihad. It is suggested that a decision on that offer will be taken relatively quickly.
The former Monaco star still has three years left to run on his contract at Anfield. Should both he and Henderson leave, that would see five senior midfielders bid farewell to Anfield this summer.
Naby Keita and James Milner penned deals with Werder Bremen and Brighton at the end of their contracts. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was also released but is yet to find fresh employment.
Henderson and Fabinho could join an ever-growing list of Premier League stars to move to Saudi Arabia. Former teammate Roberto Firmino signed for Al Ahli following his Anfield exit.
A host of Chelsea stars including N’Golo Kante have moved to the Gulf state, whilst Ruben Neves quit Wolves for Al-Hilal despite reported interest from Barcelona. Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has also been appointed as boss of second-tier side Al Qadsiah.
