Moving house is extremely stressful - but it opens up opportunities to start afresh with a change of scenery. But one family's dream home quickly turned into a house of horrors after they discovered a 'cursed' room hidden behind a wardrobe.

In a Reddit post, a woman shared how her sister uncovered a 'secret room' locked up for about 50 years when exploring their new home. She said: "This 'door' is in my sister's closet. She hadn't been able to get it open before today and just assumed it was a normal cabinet.

"It clearly sat empty for a while before we moved in. All of the stuff in this room looks extremely old, like 70s to 80s old. Hopefully whatever cursed activities occurred in the secret room happened decades ago!"

Inside the room, her sister came across porn magazines from the 1970s to 1980s, cans of non-alcoholic beers, a jar of petroleum jelly, a notepad, as well as tampons, pads, and a toothbrush.

But most notable of all was the mattress that had been squeezed into the tiny 'room', with what appears to be two pillows still placed at the top. She added: "No idea how they got the mattress inside. My current guess is that they folded it hotdog style and just sort of crammed it in there?

"My current assumption is that this was some teenager's hidey-hole for their illicit goods and acts. I personally don't believe that it was a squatter, and that it was probably done by the previous owner."

Creeped out by the discovery, the woman says she only lived in the house for about a week and a half before packing up her things and moving out. Commenting on her post, one user said: "Nah, someone was definitely living there", while another user added: "The man living in your walls seems very sanitary."

A third user said: "A $1200 a month apartment in NYC", and one more user added: "Wait until you find the hidden owner of the house."
