A commuter made passers-by chuckle yesterday - by walking through the capital completely naked.

Kitted out in just a rucksack and flip flops, while carrying a takeaway coffee, the man grinned and smiled at others as he strolled through St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London.

A passer-by managed to capture photos of the proud commuter.

"He had no pants on, you could see everything. He had grin on his face as if he loved being exhibitionist," the witness, who is a grandparent, said yesterday.

"I have cancer and have to go for blood tests every week. I was so annoyed this morning but I saw him and I was just laughing, it made my day.

"I was laughing but afterwards I did think, 'What if I had my grandchildren with me?'."

Public nudity is not illegal in England if there is no sexual context and there is no intention to cause alarm or distress, according to the CPS.

It recognises naturism is a popular activity in communities who espouse nudity as part of their lifestyle.

Whilst many naturists will restrict their activities to specially designated areas and/or places where there is a tradition of naked activity, such as nudist beaches, others may wish to enjoy nudity more widely.

But in the case of naturism a balance needs to be struck between the naturist's right to freedom of expression and the right of the wider public to be protected from harassment, alarm and distress.
