An abandoned school has been left sitting empty for years with unfinished drawings from past pupils still hanging on the walls.

New photographs from the crumbling building show a sign that appears to have been hand-made by children - but the name of the classroom has now eerily faded away.

Mark Fulton, 27, from the village of Moira in County Down, Northern Ireland visited the site nearby to find plenty of memories still lying around in the old classrooms.

The former Dromore Central Primary School building has been deserted since 2016, when pupils were moved to a new building due to them running out of space.

Mark says his recent exploration - sparked by a curious glance while driving past - left him reminiscing about his own schooldays, as many rooms had been left well-stocked with supplies.

Other parts of the building meanwhile left him feeling slightly uneasy, as he was forced to travel through the entire bottom floor in darkness as it was sealed off from everything else.

The assembly hall appears to have left the strongest impression on him, and he said the room was the "most memorable due to the echoes it produces just walking around inside".

On the walls, Mark found "old art projects from the students and desks with things the kids wrote on them", and he says he found his trip round the school "more fascinating more than anything,"

Local politicians and community representatives have been campaigning for years for Northern Ireland's Educational Authority to make use of the area, and Mark said it was especially interesting to compare local anecdotes with the reality of the building now.

Sharing the feelings of local people, he said: "Everyone has a recollection of what their own school was like when it was open, so it makes it interesting to compare the two.

"Although it's suffered a lot of vandalism over the years and the area is now surrounded by giant fences in an effort to keep people out.

"So it's hard to tell when they'll close it off for good."

The old site may still have a future however, as the Education Authority released a statement in April stating that they planned to redevelop it for a "special school or other specialist educational provision".
