Residents at an apartment complex gathered underneath a third-story window on Friday, ready to catch a four-month-old baby.

It was like a scene from a horror movie, witnesses said, as a 23-year-old mother allegedly threatened to kill her infant child, then dangled him out the window.

Gre'Ondria Whitfield had allegedly gotten into an argument with her girlfriend, who was inside the apartment along with a few other of Whitfield's friends.

Many told Eyewitness News that Whitfield had been struggling with some mental health issues at the time.

Minutes later, she was dangling her baby daughter out the window.

Neighbours below pleaded with Whitfield to bring the baby back inside, and several called the cops.

Some even attempted to enter her apartment, in Houston, Texas — at which point she allegedly pulled a gun on them.

"We all were like, 'Oh, shoot, we gotta take care of our safety.' We backed up a little bit, but we still had eyes on her, but we didn't want to do too much to antagonize her more," a neighbour who wished to remain anonymous told Eyewitness News.

"She was so irrational, so we just waited for the cops."

Law enforcement arrived shortly thereafter and apprehended Whitfield.

According to the Harris County Constable’s Office, she was charged with child endangerment and aggravated assault.

Her bond was set at $40,000, and she is set to appear in court on Tuesday.
