Child-killing 'cult mum' accused of twisting juror's words in re-trial push

Prosecutors have accused child-murdering 'cult-mum' Lori Vallow of 'twisting' a juror's words in order to push for a retrial.

Vallow Daybell was found guilty on May 12 for murdering her two children, Tylee Ryan, 16, and Joshua 'JJ' Vallow, seven, as well as her current husband's former wife, Tammy, as well as grand theft.

The children, Tylee and JJ, disappeared without a trace in 2019, and the 49-year-old mother of three, Vallow, simply refused to tell authorities or anyone else their whereabouts.

About a month after the children's disappearance, the husband's former wife Tammy, died suddenly - she was otherwise, a perfectly healthy 49-year-old.

In 2020, authorities discovered the bodies of the two children buried in Daybell's backyard in Rexburg, Idaho.

The two were eventually arrested and charged with murder.

During the investigation process, officials found ties to 'doomsday cult' religious beliefs, which the couple are said to have used as justification for killing the young children.

As prosecutors uncovered the story, it became more and more bizarre, with Vallow Daybe;; claiming that “she was here on a religious mission to gather the 144,000, so she needed to spend her time and energy there”, and that they believed the children had become 'zombies' who needed to be destroyed.

The 27-day trial shocked the nation as the jury and media combed through the gruesome details of the murders.

It took jurors seven hours to come to a unanimous decision.

Now, her lawyers have filed a motion for a new trial on the grounds that the "demonstrative evidence and character evidence was unclear when discussing the shooting of Lori's fourth husband."

As Vallow's lawyer's argue that the jurors were misguided, the prosecution raised an objection to the filing of a new case.

They stated: "The Defendant is simply attempting to twist a post-trial media interview of a juror to support her misplaced argument that the Court misdirected the jury on a matter of law or erred in the decision of any question of law arising during the course of trial and/or that the jury received evidence out of court."

Vallow's story will continue to develop as the judge will decide whether to go forward with a new trial, or proceed with sentencing.
