Train services to Gatwick have been halted due to a power cut at the airport's station, it's been announced.

All services through or terminating at the Airport in Crawley, Sussex, will be cancelled or suspended, Thameslink, Southern Rail and Great Western Railway (GWR) said this morning (Saturday).

To get to the airport, any passengers would now have to change at Three Bridges Station instead and get a bus.

Disruption on the lines to Gatwick is currently expected until 2pm, Network Rail said.

Instead, all train passengers would be able to alight at Three Bridges in West Sussex, and use their ticket on Metrobus services to the airport.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: "A power cut at Gatwick Airport means trains are unable to call at this station.

"As a result of this, trains will be amended to run fast and not call at Gatwick Airport. Disruption is expected until 14:00.

"Please leave at least an extra 60 minutes to complete your journey."

It comes off the back of various travel chaos across London and the South East this weekend after a fire at Farringdon broke out at on rail tracks.

Fire crews were called to Farringdon London Underground station after reports of a blaze, which impacted trains on the Circle, Metropolitan and Hammersmith and City lines.

It's understood the power cut was reported shortly before 11am and is due to an underground cable fault, with engineers already working to fix the outage.

UK Power Network said it was expected to be fixed between 1.30-2.30pm.

The power cut is restricted to the airport station only, so would not directly impact flights, an airport spokeswoman told The Mirror.

The spokeswoman said: "Due to a power cut at Gatwick Airport Train Station all lines are temporarily closed.

"Passengers should check with their train operator for the latest information."
