Police forces in Oregon are now talking with each other to see if six strange deaths in the state are linked.

Two forces confirmed they are talking to partner agencies to see if there is a connection, according local outlet KGW Portland.

The Polk and Clackamas County Sheriff's Offices have said they are talking to partner agencies over the mysterious deaths

Six bodies were found in wooded or secluded areas since February this year and the deaths are being considered suspicious. All bodies were found in the greater Portland area.

The Portland Police Bureau is known to be investigating along with Multnomah, Polk, Clark and Clackamas county sheriff offices. It is not yet clear which offices are talking to one another regarding the deaths.

Six deaths are now being investigated after 22-year-old Kristin Smith, JoAnna Speaks, 32, Charity Lynn Perry, 24, Bridget Leann Ramsey Webster, 31, Ashley Real, 22 and an unidentified woman were all found dead in Oregon.

Here is a timeline of events so far:

  • December 22: Kristin Smith goes missing
  • February 19: Body of Kristin Smith found in wooded area in Southeast Portland’s Pleasant Valley neighbourhood
  • March 27: Ashley Real goes missing
  • April 8: Body of JoAnna Speaks found dead inside a barn
  • April 10/11: Area of Portland with downtown fentanyl market, an where Charity Perry was frequently seen, cleared by police
  • April 24: Body of Charity Perry found
  • April 24: Body of an unidentified woman found less than three miles from body of Smith
  • April 30: Body of Bridget Webster found
  • May 7: Body of Ashley Real found
  • May 25: Smith's body identified

One of the women, JoAnna Speaks, was a mum of two.

Her sister Ariel Hamby described her death as "murder" and Clark County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed her death was homicide.

Speaks died from blunt head and neck inures and was inside a barn on an abandoned property around 22 miles north of Portland.

A GoFundMe set up in her honour has so far raised over $5,000 and an update by Ariel said there had been no news on the death despite the investigation.

Ariel wrote: "Thanks to the help of the community, we were able to bring to light that JoAnna is now one of six women found dead in the Portland Metro Area within a four-month time frame— all of which died of suspicious causes not related to gun violence or overdose.

"Our family’s heart continues to break with the loss of each woman— and though detectives have not been able to confirm a connection, we can’t help but wonder."

Of the death of Ashley Real, the Clackman County Sherrif's office said: "Since the remains were located, detectives have been working to identify the victim and cause of death, which has been determined to be suspicious in nature.

"Detectives are looking for any tips from the public on suspicious activity that may have been observed in the 29000 block of SE Judd Road between the end of March 2023 and the beginning of May 2023."
