Meghan Markle's link to Gwyneth Paltrow ahead of potential blog relaunch

Meghan Markle has been rumoured to be relaunching her blog, The Tig, but it's not set to be a rival for new pal Gwyneth Paltrow's work.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, ran the site until her engagement to Prince Harry in 2017 and used to post about makeup, advice, food, travel and various feminist musings as well as her love of philanthropy.

In her Netflix docuseries, Meghan explained the blog was more than "just a hobby" to her and shared that it had become a "really successful business."

"There was fashion, tons of food, and travel - all the things that I loved," she said in the show. "The Tig wasn't just a hobby, it became a really successful business."

The news of The Tig's return began to circulate after a request for the name of the blog to be trademarked was approved. She also enjoyed a night out to dinner with actress and fellow lifestyle blog owner, Gwyneth Paltrow.

Rumours then sparked speculation that Meghan's blog would rival with Gwyneth's. However, royal commentator Leslie Carroll was quick to squash the idea, ensuring that the blogs will be very different.

"My intuition tells me that if Meghan were to launch a new blog, she will not choose to compete with Gwyneth at all in the Goop marketplace of pricey scented candles and questionable self-care,' she told the Daily Mail.

Moreover, a brand expert and social and content manager at Chic PR, told the Mail that The Tig is likely to be a lot less sex-forward that Goop is.

She said: "The ethos of The Tig is centred around Meghan's personal experiences, with a focus on inspiring women to live their best lives."

The same message was echoed in Tina Brown's 2020 book, where she explains that Meghan was initially inspired by Goop to start the The Tig.

But she stated that there's no comparison between Meghan and the Marvel actress' writing.

"What The Tig lacked was Gwyneth's sly positioning that she was in on the joke of monetizing eyeballs," Tina wrote. "The wink-wink sensationalism of Goop’s This Smells Like My Vagina candle would never have found itself onto Meghan’s earnestly tasteful Tig."
