When it comes to travelling on a long haul flight, most passengers hope to get a few hours sleep in to help pass the time. That's exactly what one 29-year-old had in mind when travelling on an almost 10 hour flight with his boyfriend.

He explained how they'd paid extra to sit in business class - and were excited to take advantage of its extra room. However, their peaceful journey was turned into a 'screaming match' after an angry mum called them out for their PDA (public display of affection).

Taking to Reddit, the man said: "I was sat at the window and my boyfriend was next to me. There was a small separation about a foot wide between each pair of seats. In the pair of seats next to us there was a lady sitting with her child, perhaps about eight or nine years old.

"After the first meal was served, I was sleepy since the flight was late in the night.

"My boyfriend was reading a book, but the lights in the plane were dimmed so I leaned my head against his shoulder, snuggled and dozed off."

But less than an hour later, he was rudely woken up to the lady "aggressively" arguing with his boyfriend about his sleeping position.

"I asked my boyfriend what happened and he explained that her child had peeped over the separation and seen us," he added.

"His mother then also peeped over and deemed me sleeping over my boyfriend's shoulder inappropriate.

"She argued that PDA should not be public, and said that her child would be corrupted by our sight.

"I was pretty upset because my sleep had been disturbed and argued for a bit that our PDA wasn't excessive.

"It was literally just my head on his shoulder and perhaps some sleepy murmuring at the beginning."

In retaliation, the 29-year-old called the woman a "creep" for peeping over the separation to watch him sleep.

He said: "She was livid to hear herself be called a creep. A flight attendant de-escalated the situation pretty quickly. But now looking back I'm wondering if I should have just shut up and ignored the lady."

However, he has been left wondering whether "calling her a creep was a bit much" - so has asked Reddit users for their thoughts.

One user said: "If you'd been making out that would be one thing, but resting your head on your partner's shoulder is not PDA in that sense.

Perhaps that woman would be more comfortable if she sealed her child in bubble wrap and secured them in a closet until they're 18."

Another user added: "Pretty sure she wouldn’t have said this if you were a heterosexual couple. I’m sorry for the distress this has caused you.

"I’m petty but I’d have called her more than a creep"

A third user said: "Resting your head on his shoulder is sweet! Nosy lady was just being homophobic. "

"She would have had no problem if one of you were of the opposite sex. I feel for her kid! Have a blessed day!"
