A man who'd become fed up with people walking across his neatly mowed lawn decided he wouldn't stand for it any longer, taking action against those using his grass as a sneaky shortcut.

Although he's been pleased as punch with his chosen method, others have been left divided, with some blasting his tactics as "cruel" and "petty".

The man in question, whose name is Thomas Lyons, decided to set up a powerful automatic sprinkler on his lawn, meaning any cheeky trespassers would get a thorough soaking.

No-nonsense Thomas has since shared footage of his contraption via TikTok, showing person after person fleeing in shock after setting off the sprinkler.

Thomas, who goes by the username @tgunz81 was clearly amused by his own antics, giving one of the videos of soaked passersby legging it to dry land the simple caption, "funny".

This first clip has since clocked up more than 50 million views and counting, while follow-up videos also proved popular with followers.

Audio of the original alarm is included in the second piece of footage, adding to the sense of panic, while a third clip highlights why Thomas felt this measure necessary.

The third vid shows footage taken before and after the sprinkler was installed. In the before footage, people can be seen happily strolling and cycling across the grass, without a care in the world.

Footage taken post-installation shows them getting absolutely drenched, much to Thomas' delight.

The clips have sparked a mixed reaction. Some felt Thomas had been perfectly within his rights to take matters into his own hands, while others felt the sprinkler idea was just too "cruel", and couldn't understand why he didn't just build a fence if he was so "pressed".

One unimpressed person wrote: "Literally how is this hurting you? It's grass. Chill bro."

A second commented: "Wow! People really are petty."

Taking a different view, a third gleeful individual applauded: "This is awesome. Make a series. Set traps for people, but only in your grass, and share. Would definitely make a great series."

A fourth approved: "I think this is absolutely genius!! Why on earth should ANYBODY think it appropriate to trespass on your land?!? Well done Sir."
