BBC Breakfast presenter John Watson has been inundated with messages of support after he revealed he had suffered a knee injury.

The sports journalist took to his Instagram page to share that he had been hospitalised after the incident.

He shared a picture of himself lying in a hospital bed while wearing a gown, with a huge bandage on his leg as he recovered from the injury.

The TV star tore his meniscus, damaging the cartilage between the bones in his knee.

The injury tends to occur when the knee twists while a person is playing sport, and results in swelling, stiffness and pain.

Messages of support came pouring in shortly after, with Jon Kay sharing a funny get well soon message.

He wrote: "Take care, John. I’ve got a glittery sock for the other foot if you need it."

A fan said: "Eek good luck John, wishing you a speedy recovery. Also - you’ve got such dainty ankles."

"Oh my, get well soon John , I did that, slow recovery, but one step at a time n all sorted," a third commented.

A fourth said: "Really reluctant to 'like' this as it implies I am pleased to see you in such a state! Get better soon @johnwatsonsport."

This isn't John's only injury of the year as he also suffered another painful injury earlier this month.

At the time John posted on social media: "The joys of getting dressed in the dark at 4am… (I really do need to watch out for those doors) not that you’d notice, great job from the brekkie make up team," along with a picture of his puffy eyelids and cut on his eyebrow.
