Two Coldstream guards who were due to start rehearsing for the King's Coronation today have failed drug tests, it's been reported.

The guards allegedly tested positive for cocaine and cannabis and face being sacked.

They were due to take part in dress rehearsals today for the King's coronation on May 6.

Although they wouldn't comment on the two guards specifically, an Army spokesman told the Mirror: “We do not tolerate drug abuse and personnel caught taking drugs should expect to be discharged.”

The high-level Coldstream Guards are famous for their red tunics and bearskins, which they’ll wear during the Coronation of their Colonel-in-Chief.

At least 40 of the guards due to take part in the Coronation were stuck in Kenya after RAF jets set to collect them were stopped from flying over war-torn Sudan.

A civilian flight, however, was chartered instead and the Army said "no soldier returning from Kenya will miss their duties for the King’s coronation as a result".

Meanwhile, there were frustrations as councils launched a crackdown on 'unauthorised picnics' in the park for the King's Coronation.

Members of the public hoping to mark the historic occasion outdoors will need to apply for advance permission in many areas, with North Somerset Council requiring a nine-page form and a risk assessment.

It follows a number of similar restrictions introduced to stop unregistered street parties going ahead, while restrictions on bunting will also be in force along some public roads.

Explaining what people will need to do before planning a picnic, North Somerset Council told MailOnline: "We will be able to allow a small number of Coronation picnics.

"Picnic applications should be made on the council's website. Each event can be for a maximum of 50 people and permission will be granted where possible."

A strict ban on barbecues will also be in place in the area.

Other local authorities to have put down strict measures aimed at public safety include Wiltshire, the London borough of Ealing, and Warwick District council, who will enforce BBQ restrictions in public parks.

Edinburgh City Council have meanwhile asked revellers not to hang bunting across any public roads open to traffic.
