You might assume that either Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen has the biggest global fanbase of the current crop of Formula 1 stars – but don't rule out Sergio Perez.

Checo is incredibly popular across the Atlantic. Of course, he has the full support of his Mexican homeland and, with no South Americans on the grid, many F1 fans in that part of the world get behind Perez as his birthplace is the closest geographically.

And let's not forget the USA. There's a massive Spanish-speaking community in America and, considering the huge rise in popularity the sport has seen in recent years in that part of the world, it's no surprise that Perez is among the favourites there as well.

That level of support for one sportsman usually always leads to elements of superfandom, and that appears to have happened for the 33-year-old. Perez is now named in the title of a song which has gone viral in Latin America.

Mexican musician Jary Franco released his latest track 'De 0 A 100 Checo Perez' in mid-November last year. Since then, in a little over three months, the official music video alone has been watched 2.4million times on YouTube.

And F1 fans will notice that there is also a dig at Mercedes in the lyrics – Perez races for their Red Bull rivals. Franco sings: "Like Checo Perez passing the Mercedes, my life has gone from zero to one hundred."

It is certainly not the first time the F1 and music worlds have collided. Even among the current crop of racers, plenty of musical talent has been on show. Most notably, Hamilton has recorded and released music under the pseudonym XNDA.

He famously featured on the single 'Pipe', released by Christina Aguilera in 2018. And, in November last year, electronic dance trio Major Lazer hinted that they were making new music featuring the Mercedes racer.

Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc is an impressive piano player and has regularly shared videos of himself tickling the ivories. Elsewhere, Lando Norris has not been shy to break out the guitar on past Twitch streams, and has also received drumming lessons.
