Conor McGregor makes underwhelming "mega announcement" ahead of UFC comeback

Conor McGregor has announced a new flavour of his Proper Twelve whiskey ahead of his UFC comeback.

The Irishman has had a busy week after it was confirmed that he would make his UFC return this year for the first time after breaking his leg in defeat to Dustin Poirier in July 2021. McGregor will face Michael Chandler on the promotion's series The Ultimate Fighter where the pair will coach a team before meeting in a fight later this year.

He teased a huge announcement which left fans licking their lips, but some will be left disappointed given it is unrelated to the resumption of his fighting career. McGregor released a statement confirming a new Irish apple flavour for his branded liqueur, writing on Instagram: "Drink Different! "Introducing a new revolutionary product from our storied distillery, Proper No. Twelve Irish Apple—a blend of my award-winning Proper No. Twelve Irish whiskey with notes of crisp and juicy Irish apple. How do you like them apples!"

McGregor has been stepping up his training routine for several months as he looked to recover from his broken leg and continue his UFC career. The Irishman put on weight during his time outside of the octagon, which eventually saw him confirm that he would look to return at 170lb after showing off a new ripped physique.

Chandler frequently campaigned to be the first man to receive a shot at 'The Notorious' and his wish was granted by UFC president Dana White who announced he will be his opposition on the TV series before the fight. McGregor will need a big win to revive his UFC career, having lost three of his last four fights including a high-profile defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018.

However his American rival believes it is his time to prove he was worthy of the offer by showing a new side to his multi-faceted MMA style. "I'm extremely excited," Chandler told fans in a YouTube video reacting to this weekend's news. "I think it's going to bring the best out of me and a side out of me that you guys may or may not get to see. Obviously you don't get to see the everyday ins and outs of how passionate about the sport that I am."
