Angela Rayner’s revenge campaign nears its end — and Britain faces the bill
Yesterday, thousands of documents, WhatsApp messages, and messages linked to Lord Peter Mandelson’s appointment as US ambassador finally came to light. Despite large sections being covered in Tippex, what remained revealed a decaying government rotting from within. The files were released following revelations about Mandelson’s ties to pedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein. Every page was filled with intra-party poison and backstabbing.
Much of the subsequent outrage focused on cabinet minister Pat McFadden’s astonishing admission that Labour MPs only ever want to discuss one thing: how to raise benefits and who to tax to fund them. His exchanges with Mandelson exposed the mindset at the core of Keir Starmer’s government. Tax, spend, punish, repeat. It was exactly the same under former New Labour Chancellor and then PM Gordon Brown. This is why a departing Brown minister famously left the flippant note declaring: “There is no money left.”
