Massive fire erupts in Nottingham city centre after reports of "big explosion"

A massive fire has broken out in Nottingham city centre, with thick smoke filling the sky, prompting the public to close windows and doors. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze on Curzon Place at around 11:30 am today (May 31).

At least two witnesses described hearing a "big explosion" or "big bang" before a plume of smoke rose into the sky, according to Nottinghamshire Live. Several police cordons have been set up around Huntingdon Street and Curzon Place. A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We’re currently in attendance at a fire on Curzon Street in the city centre. Our joint fire control is receiving a large number of calls about this incident, but please rest assured we are aware of the situation. If you live nearby, please keep your windows and doors closed as there is a large smoke plume."
