Formula One legend and four-time world champion Alain Prost has reportedly been left injured following an alleged armed robbery at his Swiss home.

The racing icon, who was in the driving seat for Williams, McLaren and Ferrari during his illustrious career, was reportedly physically attacked during the incident and sustained a head injury.

The 71-year-old is an iconic name in the world of racing after starring in the sport for 13 years between 1980 and 1993. The Professor held the records for most podiums (106), most wins (51) and fastest laps (41). Prost was embroiled in a historic rivalry with the late Ferrari great Ayrton Senna during his decade in Formula One.

Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen hold the record alongside Prost as fourth-most Drivers’ Championships with Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher and Juan Manuel Fangio having more. But the French racing icon has hit the headlines for the wrong and worrying reasons.

According to Swiss newspaper Blick, a gang of masked intruders allegedly forced their way into the family home on Tuesday (May 19) at around 8:30am.

The masked men, who were allegedly armed, reportedly threatened Prost’s family and forced one member to open the safe inside the property in Nyon, situated on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Blick reports that one of his sons was forced to open the safe, which was subsequently stripped of its entire contents.
