Letterbox firebomb plot against Farage exposed as mystery millions fund protection
Nigel Farage has disclosed that he was the target of a firebombing attack at his residence last year, as it was revealed that he received a ’gift’ of £5 million from a supporter to aid in security measures.
An incendiary device was inserted through his letterbox in an ’outright arson attempt’, the Reform UK leader shared with the Telegraph.
He mentioned: ’I wasn’t at home at the time, but upon my return and opening the door, I discovered the damage.
’Fortunately, it had extinguished itself in the porch, and we believe the perpetrators might have been interrupted during the act.’
No suspects have been identified to date, he added, although the police were ’all over it’.
Farage stated that the magnitude of threats had resulted in a seven-figure personal gift from Christopher Harborne, a British billionaire residing in Thailand, to cover his security costs.
The Telegraph reported that the gift is approximately £5 million.
Harborne has garnered attention recently for donating more than £12 million to Reform – including £9 million in a single instance last December, marking the largest single donation from a living individual to a UK political party in history.
Farage told the newspaper: ’I have tried and failed in the past to secure funding for security from the Home Office and I don’t believe the state will ever assist me.
’I am very much on my own and will be for the rest of my life, and I have to accept that harsh reality.
’Christopher is a passionate supporter who is deeply worried about my safety.’
Since the money for security was a personal gift and not considered a political donation, it was neither taxed nor declared.
Conservative Party chairman Kevin Hollinrake stated: ’This £5 million from the crypto billionaire raises serious questions. What is Nigel Farage hiding? And why does Reform believe the rules don’t apply to them?’
