Israel plans bill to review corruption charges against Netanyahu
The Israeli government is set to introduce a bill that could allow for a review of the corruption charges against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The proposed legislation would enable the replacement of the current state attorney, Gali Baharav-Miara, who has opposed halting Netanyahu’s trial. The bill will be presented for a vote in the Knesset’s winter session, with coalition partners negotiating support from ultra-Orthodox parties.
The move follows US President Donald Trump’s call for an Israeli presidential pardon, which is currently prohibited under Israeli law unless Netanyahu admits guilt. The prime minister faces multiple corruption cases over alleged gifts and regulatory favours, as well as international pressure from the ICC, which issued arrest warrants in 2024 over alleged war crimes in Gaza. The domestic bill represents the latest attempt by the government to influence the legal process surrounding Netanyahu.
