Man pleads guilty to murder of 47-year-old woman in Swansea

A man has admitted murdering a 47-year-old woman in her own home.

Leanne Williams was found dead in her home in the Townhill area of Swansea on February 27.

She had suffered ‘significant injuries’ consistent with an assault.

33-year-old Matthew Battenbough, of no fixed abode, appeared at Swansea crown court today where he pleaded guilty to murder.

He will be sentenced on September 26.

Detective Inspector David Butt of South Wales Police said: ‘The news of Leanne’s death was devastating to her family and to the wider communities of Townhill and Swansea.

‘Leanne’s family are being supported by specially trained officers. We hope that Matthew Battenbough’s guilty plea will offer them some relief following this traumatic time.’

Originally another man was arrested as part of the investigation into Leanne’s murder.

The second man, aged 41, was released from custody on March 5 and no further action was taken against him.
