Putin invites Trump to Moscow: US president urges Ukraine to “make a deal”

After his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, Donald Trump said the talks went “ten out of ten” and confirmed that he has “a great relationship” with the Russian president. In response, Putin invited Trump to hold the next round of negotiations in Moscow.

In a conversation with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump said that after the brief press conference, he had a chance to speak with Putin one-on-one. According to him, the Russian president “spoke sincerely about wanting to end the war in Ukraine.” At the same time, the U.S. president did not mention that it was Putin who started the war back in 2014 and expanded it into a full-scale invasion in 2022.

Asked to rate the meeting, Trump gave it “a ten” and explained: “It’s good when two great powers get along.” He also boasted that he “has the ability to end wars,” even though at the summit he was unable to secure even a ceasefire.

Hannity asked what advice Trump would give Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky. His reply was blunt: “Make a deal.” Trump added that Ukraine should agree to a settlement with Russia, and part of such negotiations could involve “trading land”: more would remain with Russia, while Ukraine would receive certain security guarantees outside of NATO.

“Agree to a deal. You have to make a Deal. Russia is a great power. Ukraine is not, although they have very good soldiers and weapons we provided,” Trump said, estimating the chances of an agreement as “50–50.”
