Twenty killed and over 30 injured in central Gaza as four trucks overturn into crowd

According to the BBC, the incident was reported by the Hamas-run civil defense service.

On Tuesday evening, crowds rushed toward the vehicles on a road southeast of Deir al-Balah. Local journalists said people climbed onto the trucks, causing drivers to lose control of the vehicles.

Civil defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal stated that the area was under Israeli military control, and the roads were uneven and dangerous.

A private transport association currently operating in Gaza reported that 26 commercial trucks entered the enclave on Tuesday. Six of them were looted, and four overturned.

Israel has announced plans to gradually allow the entry of goods into Gaza through the private sector to increase the volume of aid reaching the enclave and reduce dependency on the UN. Approved goods include baby formula, fruits, vegetables, hygiene products, and basic food items. Hamas said civilians have been waiting for weeks for the delivery of basic supplies, which leads to “crowds storming the trucks.”

Trucks carrying humanitarian aid have repeatedly been targeted.

On Wednesday, Jordan reported that Israeli settlers attacked a humanitarian convoy of 30 trucks en route to Gaza and accused Israel of failing to prevent such attacks. The convoy had crossed the Jordanian border and was heading to the Tzicim border crossing into Gaza. Settlers blocked the road and pelted the trucks with stones, smashing windows.

According to Jordanian government spokesperson Muhammad al-Momani, this was the second attack on a Jordanian aid convoy. The previous incident occurred on Sunday.

More than 100 international humanitarian and human rights organizations have warned of mass starvation in Gaza and accuse Israel of obstructing the distribution of life-saving aid.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denies there is famine in the enclave and insists that Israel is not blocking aid deliveries.
