Russian spies exposed in Argentina: built influence network to advance Kremlin interests
Argentina’s State Intelligence Secretariat (SIDE) has uncovered a foreign influence operation carried out by a group of Russians residing in the country, in collaboration with Argentine citizens.
According to intelligence sources, the network operated in the Kremlin’s interests, spreading disinformation and attempting to manipulate public opinion.
The investigation revealed the existence of an organization called La Compañía, linked to Yevgeny Prigozhin (who died in August 2023) and the so-called “Project Lakhta,” known for conducting global disinformation campaigns.
The alleged coordinator of this network in Argentina is Russian national Lev Konstantinovich Andriashvili, who resides in the country. Along with his wife, Irina Yakovenko — also a Russian citizen — he is reportedly responsible for financing the operations and establishing contacts with local collaborators.
“The aim of La Compañía is to build a group of individuals loyal to Russian interests in order to run disinformation campaigns, obtain sensitive political information, and influence funds, NGOs, and civil society organizations,” the official press release stated.
To strengthen national security, the Argentine government has announced the creation of a new Federal Department of Investigations (DFI) within the Federal Police. The department will focus on organized crime, narcotics, and terrorism.
“The government will not allow Argentina to fall under the influence of any foreign power,” authorities emphasized.
