Attempted robbery at elite auction house Phillips in Mayfair, London
Burglars attempted to break into one of central London’s most upmarket auction houses that sells jewellery and art, the police told Metro.
The suspected aggravated burglary at Phillips on Berkeley Square, Mayfair, occurred in the early hours this morning.
Photographs show one of the gallery’s glass doors shattered and lying on the pavement, with a blue Mercedes parked just outside.
The vehicle has visible dents, with one of the headlights damaged.
Police have been unable to confirm if anything was stolen.
A witness said they saw the gallery had been taped off, with forensics teams on the scene.
The force told Metro: ’Officers are investigating a suspected aggravated burglary at a commercial property in Berkeley Square, Mayfair at 4:14 am on Monday.
’A crime scene remains in place while initial enquiries are conducted.’
They added: ’No arrests have been made at this stage.’
An aggravated burglary is a burglary that involves a weapon, damage, vandalism, or violence.
Phillips has been approached for comment.
