An explosion occurred at a Northrop Grumman facility that was producing intercontinental ballistic missiles, reported by KSL News Utah and Fox13.

The explosion took place at 7:38 a.m. on April 16 and destroyed a building at the Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems plant in Promontory, Utah, where the company manufactures solid-fuel rocket engines.є

"This morning, an incident occurred in one of the buildings at our Promontory facility. We are working to determine the cause. Employees who were working in or near the building today are being monitored and have not sustained any serious injuries," the company stated.

Northrop has not provided any comments regarding the cause of the explosion or the status of production. However, footage released by local TV stations shows extensive destruction.

Before being acquired by Northrop Grumman in 2018, the Promontory facility was owned by Orbital ATK. It specializes in the production of solid-fuel rocket engines and is a leading player in this market, fulfilling defense contracts for the U.S. Air Force, NASA, and commercial aerospace companies.

The American publication Air and Space Forces suggests that the plant’s capabilities may have been involved in the production of the new LGM-35A Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile. The U.S. had planned to purchase 659 such missiles.

Additionally, American company Northrop Grumman plans to manufacture medium-caliber ammunition in Ukraine as part of a joint production agreement.
