The H26 bus was heading towards Hatton Cross at the time of the incident that happened on the brow of a railway bridge.

Another girl in the car survived the crash, and a friend of one of the boys who died told Metro last week: ‘He was a lovely guy, he would give you anything he had. He was generous and hardworking. He lived close to where the crash was. He must have been going home.

‘His family are heartbroken, absolutely devastated. When the mother lays the table for dinner there will be one less place. It’s terrible.

A witness, Nero Verbickas, 45, said: ‘We heard a boom like a bomb then I saw a fire. There were people screaming

‘It was terrible. The police told me a woman was driving the car.’

Jessica Fell-Hicks, 22 said she saw the bus on fire and the front ‘exploded’ in the blaze: ‘The bus was smoking with ambulances and police everywhere. The front of the bus exploded it was like a fireball.

‘There’s accidents all the time. We saw a motorcyclist fire there recently.’
