Dublin primary school stabbing: 11-year-old boy injured in attack by fellow pupil
A boy has been injured in a primary school stabbing involving another pupil.
The victim, who is believed to be 11, was taken to hospital with injuries that are non-life threatening this morning.
Police in north Dublin said both children attend the school. It is understood that an implement was used during the incident, which was not specified.
Gardai say they are in contact with the parents of both children.
The school, which was closed off for an investigation to begin, has not yet been identified.
A motive for the incident is still under consideration.
Gardai said in a statement: ‘An Garda Siochana is currently liaising with school management and staff with a view to identifying the precise circumstances around the incident.
‘An Garda Siochana will continue to engage with all relevant State agencies regarding this incident.
‘There is no concern for public safety.’
Conor Reddy, a councillor for the Ballymun-Finglas area where the school is based, was ‘shocked’ to hear about the incident.
He told Metro: ‘It is the worst possible thing to hear in a school, especially primary school. To see that level of violence can happen there is shocking.
‘It is unfortunately an area that has been neglected by the state.
‘My thoughts are with the parents affected and we need to take this opportunity to look at why this happened.’
He said the local community sergeant had told him the child will make a recovery and his injuries were non life-threatening.
‘Children were sent home and there will be support for children and staff who witnessed the incident.’
