A mum declared "the world has gone mad" after she bought a box of her children's favourite cereal and found a "half empty" bag inside.

Shoppers have been noticing increases in the prices of everyday items at the supermarket, with more and more items falling victim to "shrinkflation" - including yoghurts, sweets, chocolate, and crisps. Customers have been left furious after being charged the same amount of money for products that have been cut short of their regular amount.

One Australian woman, Renne, was left outraged when she paid $10 (£5) for a box of infamous Froot Loops. The mum, who is from Victoria, said she regularly purchases a box of the popular cereal as it is one of the only things her children will agree to eat for breakfast. But she was left in a "surreal" situation when she bought a new box recently and found the cereal bag was not filled to the top.

"It's highway robbery. I know we pay based on weight, but $10 for that amount is ridiculous," she told Mail Online.

Renee took to Facebook to share her frustration. She said: "$10 for half a bag of Froot Loops - the world has gone mad." The mum told the Daily Mail: "I'll only buy it when it's on special from now on, because I'll be lucky if the box lasts a week with my family of four."

Hundreds of people rushed to the comments on social media and agreed with the mum's fury. "Oh my god. The bags use to be almost full," one individual said.

One other wrote: "Everything is like that these days it's ridiculous and a rip off." Another added: "I can't understand how companies get away with charging $10 for cereal at all."

One individual suggested: "I purchase my cereals when they are half-price. They usually go on a six-week cycle so I get enough to last until the next special." "'It's like buying a packet of chips. Five chips and a bag full of air," another said.

Earlier this week the Mirror reported one woman experienced similar to Renee, but with McCoy's crisps. She shared her fury after opening a packet of McCoy's and finding only a meagre amount of crisps inside. The annoyed crisp lover shared a picture of the inside of her McCoy's packet, which was clearly pretty empty. There was just a handful of crisps inside - a total of 12. Now the teacher vows to never buy the crisps again.
