Terrifying moment lorry doors fly open and nearly hit pedestrians

A lorry almost hit pedestrians waiting at a bus stop when its doors flew open in a terrifying incident.

CCTV footage shows the scary moment when the back doors of a lorry swung open and nearly hit people waiting at a bus stop. It appears that only a 20mph traffic sign stopped the heavy door from crashing into the people on the street. The shocking event happened just before midday on Monday (February 26) on Gelli Road in the village of Gelli, Wales.

The video shows several people waiting at a bus stop as a large red lorry drives past with its back door swinging open. Eyewitnesses claim that the driver only realised there was a problem when the door hit the sign. Raj Binder, who was walking home when the lorry went past, told Wales Online: "All these pieces of wood and drawers start falling out onto the road. There was a woman with a child behind the lorry who narrowly avoided it all falling onto her car.

"She got out and helped me clear the road of everything. I shouted to the driver but the lorry is loud so he couldn't hear me, and carried on driving. It was only when the door slammed into the lamppost he realised something was wrong."

Mr Binder said the driver stopped, got out, and closed it all back up again, then left shortly after. He added: "It would have been unthinkable of what would have happened to those at the bus stop, if that lamppost wasn't there."
