Meghan Markle made a subtle yet sweet nod to husband Prince Harry as the couple continued their defiant display of unity.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been targeted by rumours of an impending split following reports they’re at odds over how to develop their new Sussex brand, but Meghan recently quashed the negativity with a touching display of affection for her husband. Stepping out in Los Angeles on Thursday, the 42-year-old wore a pair of Aviator sunglasses, her husband’s signature style, for the chic lunch date.

Meghan looked stylish as she wore the sunglasses, which weren’t too dissimilar to the pair Harry picked out while shopping for his wife in a store in Tokyo last summer. The mother-of-two made the touching gesture in honour of her husband as she headed out for lunch with designer Clare Waight Keller, who created Meghan’s wedding dress in 2018. The old friends reconnected at the exclusive Cipriani Beverly Hills, and Meghan was pictured exiting the Italian fine dining restaurant while chatting with passers-by.

She finished off her effortlessly casual outfit with a pair of black wide leg trousers, a black turtleneck, a MaxMara cashmere camel overcoat and black ballet flats, with her recently coloured brunette tresses flowing loosely over her shoulders. Meghan and Clare have been friends since the designer created her gorgeous wedding dress six years ago, and they built a solid friendship during the five months it took for Clare, who was then the artistic director of Givenchy, to create the stunning gown.

“It all started out, in a way, quite relaxed. We just talked a lot about her personal style. There was that sense of playfulness and modernity and doing things in a different way. And I really feel that - for the dress, particularly - that sense of it could be something that really represented her, her spirit, her modernity, and the freshness and the cleanness,” she told Vanity Fair in August last year.

Speaking about their close friendship, Clare said their bond was “incredibly special” after their working relationship developed “very quickly into a friendship.” She added: “I suppose we have a sort of unbreakable bond in that sense, when you’ve experienced something very few people have together, so it goes deep.”

Just months after her wedding, Meghan wore another creation by Clare, a cream dress with a caped neckline, for her first official engagement with the late Queen Elizabeth, and in December 2018, she presented Clare with the British Designer of the Year Award. Since their dreamy collaboration on Meghan’s timeless wedding dress, Clare has left Givenchy and launched a series of collections for high street store Uniqlo.
