Meghan Markle looked identical to her son Prince Archie in a rare insight into the Duchess of Sussex’s childhood.

The 42-year-old actress welcomed her first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in May 2019, and in snaps released since his birth, it seems that the youngster has inherited his father Prince Harry’s iconic red hair. However, in never-before-seen snaps of Meghan as a baby, it appears that the former Suits star has more than just a passing resemblance to her son.

Both Archie and Meghan share the same dark brown eyes, and have similar shaped noses and mouths, and many royal fans agreed they looked like twins. “I had to double take when I saw this pic of Meghan Markle as a baby. I thought it was her 1st born Prince Archie. He really is a copy of her and Princess Lilibet is a copy of Prince Harry,” one tweeted, as another agreed: “Meghan and Archie look IDENTICAL.”

The picture was shared by her cousin Shawn Johnson, 43, who revealed it was a joy growing up with Meghan. “She was always really looking after us and making sure that we're all doing fine,” he told DailyMail.com, as he described the Duchess of Sussex as “sweet” and “kind”. While he admitted he hadn’t seen the former actress in more than 20 years, and wasn’t invited to her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry, Shawn was full of praise for his estranged cousin.

Harry and Meghan welcomed Archie in 2019, and he was not born with a royal title, unlike his cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Once his grandfather King Charles ascended to the throne, Archie was given the title of Prince, while his little sister Lilibet was named Princess. It was recently revealed that rather than use Harry’s surname of Mountbatten-Windsor, Meghan and her husband are calling their children Archie and Lilibet Sussex, in keeping with the titles they were given by the late Queen Elizabeth when they married.

Harry and Meghan have spoken fondly about their children in rare interviews, and at the Invictus Games in 2023, the 39-year-old Prince told the crowd his son wanted to be an astronaut. “When I talk to my son Archie about what he wants to be when he grows up, some days it's an astronaut, other days it's a pilot, a helicopter pilot obviously. But what I remind him is that no matter what you want to be when you grow up, it's your character that matters most,” he recalled.
