A mum has attracted nay-sayers and enthusiastic supporters after she left her child and boyfriend in economy and relaxed in business class on a flight.

Brit Ellis Cochlin recently flew from Paris to Los Angeles with her boyfriend Rob and their young daughter. The video creator, who posts as @ellcochlin on TikTok explained that her partner had offered to fly in economy with their child as a present for her giving birth.

Ellis gratefully accepted the gift, enjoying half a day kicking back in the luxury of business class while her little tot slept in a cot on the floor next to her economy bound man.

"Am I a horrible person for flying business class while my baby and boyfriend flew economy?" she asked at the start of the clip, before explaining that her and Rob have different ideas about spending cash. While she likes to treat herself to fancy flights and jewellery, he is more into fine dining.

"The flight from Paris to LA was about just over 11 hours, and the thought of having a baby-free flight was like music to my ears. I love Prim, and I love that girl with my whole heart, but let me tell you, flying long-haul on your own with a baby is not easy," Ellis said, explaining that Rob had not flown with Prim before and wanted to try it out.

Had she bought Rob a seat in business class they would've had to buy the baby one as well, meaning the whole venture would've cost far more.

"My whole family told me I was a horrible person, as a joke, obviously, for being in business while Prim and Rob were in economy. But I said, 'As if you wouldn't do the same'," she said.

As happy as Ellis was to get some shut eye and arrive in LA feeling fresh, she was not a huge fan of the food they served on the flight. When she linked back up with Rob, he said the flight was "easy as hell", but Ellis suspected him of "lying".

In the comments some people questioned Ellis's decision to leave Rob to do the child care by himself in a potentially difficult and stressful situation. One TikTok user wrote: "I think you both should have been there for each other and shared the responsibility."

Another said: "I couldn’t do this to my partner. I wouldn’t enjoy the flight at all. Pleased for you though. I really wish I could do it and not feel guilty."

There were those in support of the division of duty however, including one woman who argued: "You’ve spent SO MUCH time baby handling solo, I feel you definitely earned this!"

Another person supportively chimed in: "No. Don’t feel guilty. I always leave my kids with my husband on our flights. We’re on the same roll but I sleep and he watches them."
