Unwanted and unloved dog finally finds home after almost 8 years in kennels
An unwanted and unloved dog has finally found a home after spending seven years and nine months in kennels. The poor pooch, named Ginger, was dropped off at Dogwood Animal Shelter, in Missouri, after being abandoned on the streets.
However, the rescue team never thought the centre would become her permanent home for the next almost eight years, as potential owners dismissed her due to her nervous nature. Little Ginger was full of fear when she first arrived, which made her seem 'unadoptable' as it could take her a long time to warm up to new people.
The shelter tried many times to find her a home. But it wasn't until they shared a post on Facebook that someone finally offered to adopt her. They posted a picture of Ginger in her kennel looking sad and put two notes on her cage. The notes read: "Hi! I'm Ginger. I've been here waiting 7 years, 9 months, 2 weeks, and 2 days. I'm a good girl. I promise. I just need a second chance."

Ginger with her new owner Beth (dogwoodanimalshelter/Facebook)Kindhearted Beth stepped up to welcome 10-year-old Ginger into her home, wanting to give her the best retirement years to make up for spending much of her life in rescue. The team tried the same note tactic a year earlier - but sadly it wasn't Ginger's time. Speaking to The Dodo, Beth said: "She is an old girl, but very puppy-like nowadays. Ginger and I have definitely grown together. I feel like when I got her, we were both kids entering adulthood together."

Now Ginger is 13-years-old, she has started to slow down and develop some health issues - but this doesn't stop her from living each day to its max. Beth added: "I want to challenge more people to adopt the ‘unadoptable’ or long-term animal and give them a second chance to love and live."
Thanking Beth for giving Ginger a chance, the team at Dogwood Animal Shelter said: "Ginger has gone home! Her adopter has no children and no pets, has a fenced in yard, and experience with dogs with dispositions similar to Ginger’s! We’re very grateful to those who cheered us on and kept the faith that Ginger would finally have the loving, comfy home she deserves!"
