A woman has been dubbed "selfish" and a "brat" after complaining that her birthday celebrations were "ruined" by her sister's baby shower.

The upset woman shared her fury after offering to host a baby shower for her 27-year-old sister, but it turned into a nightmare. The 30-year-old host asked people on the guest list for dates in the calendar that would work for them to attend the shower. But she soon regretted asking her sister's friends what would work for them; they could not all agree on a date - aside from the host's birthday.

After insisting she did not want to host the party on this date, the sister was slammed as an "awful human" and told to "suck it up" by the other attendees, she claimed.

The party organiser, who took to Reddit anonymously to share her dilemma, did not think this was unreasonable; she had previously spent thousands organising her sister's hen do and was going to be forking out up to £2,000 on the baby shower.

She explained: "My sister is pregnant and I'm planning the shower. I've had probably six different people now tell me what weekends they want/do not want me to host it and it's come down to my birthday weekend or a different weekend. I'm not really interested in having it on my birthday but people are telling me to suck it up."

The hosting sister believes there has been unfair treatment and pressure on her. She continued: "My sister got married first, and she's having the first kid in the family - everyone has always given her the attention and praise - I have been told that I am a brat, awful human etc, for wanting to do anything my way or in my favour.

"I have been feeling extremely left out for not being married yet or doing anything 'traditional' and I would really just like to not host the party on my birthday; I spent literal thousands of dollars on her and I'll be spending probably £1-2k for this too, and I really just want my birthday to be for me. Am I being unreasonable?"

The post raked in hundreds of responses - with a number of people pointing out she needs to put her foot down. One individual bluntly advised: "Stop being a door mat. Who cares if someone thinks you are the villain? Stop shelling out all of this money because of someone else's expectations. Start putting yourself first."

Another wrote: "Honey, you deserve better than this. You are 30 years old, independent, and successful enough to drop thousands on a baby shower. It's time to stop lying to yourself. Your sister is the favourite, she always was the favourite, and she'll always be the favourite."

One other commented: "Let her friends pay and do your birthday the way you want. Does she even appreciate you?"- One other said: "You aren't even obligated to host this. It has historically been very bad manners for family to have showers. They are supposed to be hosted by friends.

"I know that isn't observed anymore, but you wouldn't be off base if you didn't. As for the date, you're hosting, you decide. People show up for this extravaganza or they don't."
