Harry and Meghan didn't want to be 'overshadowed' by Taylor Swift at Super Bowl, say fans

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are thought to be skipping tonight's Super Bowl in Las Vegas as they want to avoid being 'overshadowed' by singer Taylor Swift.

Taylor is expected to make an appearance at this year's Super Bowl as her boyfriend Travis Kelce takes to the field for his team the Kansas City Chiefs, despite currently being on tour in Tokyo. Whilst the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were extended a personal invite to attend the football game, the royal couple are understood to have politely turned the event down as they instead head to Canada to prepare for the Duke’s Invictus Games.

It was thought the couple may have attended the games, especially after Harry gave a speech at Thursday’s NFL Honors in Las Vegas ahead of the game. Yet claims they might feel 'overshadowed' and not want to 'compete' with Taylor have seen the pair decline to attend.

The move to miss the huge football event also comes as Swift fans claim the royal pair are missing the event to avoid being 'overshadowed' by Taylor Swift, who is extended to return from Japan. Fans on social media suggested that Meghan may have declined the Super Bowl invite as one wrote: "Attempting to compete with Taylor Swift for air time (was) too much for her to handle." Another added: "They know they cannot compete against Taylor Swift."

Sources told Page Six neither Harry not Meghan will be in Las Vegas for the Super Bowl as they are "busy preparing for their trip to Canada for their Invictus Games opening event next week." The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to spend three days in Canada to celebrate one year to go until the 2025 Invictus Games.

The Duke and Duchess were extended a personal invitation as sources previously told The Mirror that American football bosses have invited the Duke of Sussex to Sunday's game. An NFL insider said: "It is well known the Prince loves American football, and bosses have extended an invitation to him following his appearance at the awards. This year's Super Bowl is expected to be one of the most watched ever due largely to Taylor being there to support her boyfriend."

Whilst Harry and Meghan won't be in attendance at the game, there will be no shortage of celebrities supporting the teams on the pitch. Boxer Floyd Mayweather has shelled out $1.1million (£870,000) for him and 34 friends to watch the football from a luxury suite.
