Taking your clothes to a dry cleaner makes life so much easier - but have you ever thought about what really happens to them?

There are some things in life that you may never think too much about - and one of them perhaps may be what happens to your clothes at a dry cleaner.

Trusting an expert to remove stains or simply just give your most special items of clothes a refresh means you don't need to worry too much, but one woman was mindblown when she realised the clothes never actually get wet, hence the name dry cleaners.

Podcast hosts Lauren Riihimaki and Jeremy Lewis shared a snippet on TikTok of their latest episode on the Wild 'Til 9 show, as they discussed what actually happens in the dry cleaning process - Lauren admitted she thought they did the same as we do at home, just "better".

She said: "I thought that when you take something to the dry cleaners, especially those speciality fabrics and textures, I thought that they were just really good at washing things because that's what they do. They are the dry cleaners. They're the professionals," and added: "I thought that when you take something there, they just know how to wash it better than us at home."

However Jeremy didn't seem impressed with his co-star's revelation and was shocked she was only just realising this, he simply replied: "Okay." As Lauren concluded: "And to my dismay, it stays dry."

It seems as if Lauren wasn't alone, as many people flocked to the comments to admit they had only just found out too. One TikToker commented: "You just honestly blew my mind! I've never even thought about what happened at the dry cleaners omg!!" While a second added: "I'm sorry this ruined me. I will never take anything to the dry cleaners again. It will not feel clean ever again."

However fellow dry cleaners chimed in with an explanation. One person said: "Well it doesn't get wet with water... it does get 'wet' with certain solvents though... but since they're not water they technically stay dry... because only water can make things wet," and another penned: "I work at a dry cleaner and I didn't even know what it was happening LOL but basically it's chemicals and soap instead of water."
