Meghan Markle decided to stay in California as Prince Harry paid a quick visit to the UK after King Charles was diagnosed with cancer.

The Duke of Sussex spent the day in London and travelled to Clarence House, where he had a 30-minute meeting with his father. It was the first time Harry had seen the monarch since his Coronation nine months ago.

Meanwhile, Meghan stayed in Montecito with her and Harry's two children - Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. She smiled as she was seen driving around her neighbourhood. One expert believes Meghan may have felt too "uncomfortable" to join Harry for his return to the UK.

Relationship expert Louella Alderson told The Mirror: "It's unsurprising that Meghan chose not to fly to the UK with Harry. If she did, the attention of the media would have been solely focused on her being there and not on more important things like King Charles' health and Harry reconnecting with his family.

"Additionally, Meghan hasn't had the best relationship with the Royal Family throughout her time with Harry, which seems to have only gotten worse since their departure from the UK and all of their comments to the media. It's understandable that she may not feel comfortable or want to be in a situation where she has to interact with them during such a difficult time."

Meghan and Harry spoke out about their time in The Firm in their Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan. In the explosive show, Harry detailed the breakdown of his relationship with his brother Prince William and claimed he left him terrified after he screamed and shouted at him during the Sandringham summit.

Harry also alleged members of Kensington Palace had then "lied to protect my brother". The Duke of Sussex also took aim at his dad, King Charles and discussed the tense Megxit crisis meeting held with the Queen in January 2020.

Louella concluded: "Meghan's choice not to attend is likely more about not wanting to be in a potentially uncomfortable situation with the royal family and distract from the main focus: King Charles's health. Meghan staying in America feels like the right decision for everyone in this situation."

Harry returned to Los Angeles on Thursday after just over 24 hours in the UK. He then made a surprise appearance at the 2024 NFL Honours ceremony in Las Vegas and took to the stage to present the Walter Payton Man of the Year award to Pittsburgh Steelers football player Cameron Heyward.

As the talented defensive tackle took the stage he was taken aback by Prince Harry's presence and jokingly said: "Man, Prince freaking Harry. Man, I'm in shock. That's Prince Harry."
