Harry's meeting with Charles proves 'no magic' can sweep away pain - expert
Prince Harry's short meeting with King Charles following his cancer diagnosis proves their pain can't be swept away quickly, according to an expert.
The Duke of Sussex dashed to the UK from his home in California just hours after the news was made public that the King had a form of cancer. After flying 5,000 miles on an 11-hour British Airways flight, he is believed to have held just a 30-minute meeting with Charles before the monarch headed to Sandringham to rest. Just over 24 hours after he arrived, Harry then flew back to Los Angeles to his wife Meghan Markle and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Since quitting as a working royal, Harry's allegations against his family have appeared in his Oprah interview, and, in the months following the Queen’s death, his Netflix documentary and memoir Spare.

And according to former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond, the length of the meeting was very telling. She told OK!: "It seems quite extraordinary that they couldn’t have spent a little more time together in London or Sandringham. It also confirms that there is no magic wand that can suddenly sweep away the pain of the past few years. But it is, at least, one tangible, tentative step towards reconciliation between father and son but not between brothers."
It comes as another expert said that Harry's telling gestures as he left the UK may have provided a positive hint about King Charles. A smiling Harry was spotted at Heathrow ahead of his flight back to Los Angeles following his whirlwind trip to visit his father after his cancer diagnosis. According to body language expert Judi James, it appears Harry is leaving the UK with a "sense of reassurance". She told the Mirror: "Harry's relieved-looking body language here will hopefully provide some positive clues about his father's current condition. His shoulders and body look relaxed and the way he thrusts his hands into his pockets as he walks suggests more of a casual 'mooch' than any sign of tension or anxiety.
"His eye expression looks animated, with an eye smile, and he appears to be enjoying a joke or sharing laughter with the people accompanying him. The suggestion here is that he is hopefully leaving the UK with some sense of reassurance, having seen his father for their brief meeting."
Charles personally called both Harry and Prince William, as well as his siblings Anne, the Duke of York and the Duke of Edinburgh, to give them the news before it was publicly announced to the nation by the Palace at 6pm on Monday.
The Palace has called for the King’s privacy to be respected, especially during his treatment, but said he wanted to make his diagnosis public because of his long-running support for cancer charities. This is the latest major royal health scare to hit the monarchy at the start of 2024, coming after the King’s hospital stay, Kate's major surgery, keeping her away from official duties until after Easter, and Sarah, Duchess of York's skin cancer diagnosis.
