You spend a lot of your time in your car, but how well do you really know your motor? Do you know what every single button does?

Drivers have been left stunned after realising what a hidden button means - and how it could save your life in an emergency situation.

We'd all hope we never have to use it, but one TikToker has shared the secret switch that can help you escape if you ever find yourself trapped in your car.

While being trapped in a car may sound like something that could rarely happen, it's always good to know what to do. For instance, being submerged in water, you won't be able to open the doors due to the water pressure. So what do you do?

'I don't want children staying up late at weekends - I really need adult time'

The TikToker claims it's "very simple" to get out if you find yourself in this situation. She first said to put the back seats down and climb through the boot. She then noted the "life-saving switch" to press as you can open the boot in just "one-click" allowing you to escape out of the car easily. As she regularly posts car driving tips and tricks, she shares car knowledge with drivers - and this video has racked up over 23,000 views.

It comes after people only just realised why there are little black dots on a windscreen too and they're not just there for decoration - they actually have a really important purpose. These black dots are called "frits" or dot matrices and are usually located on the outer ridges of the front windscreen. You can usually see these next to a black enamel bar running around the screen.

Windscreen experts at Autoglaze explained that the black dots are "underrated" by road users as they "actually help distribute temperature evenly to lessen optical distortion or lensing."

They explained: "This happens when the frit band (the solid black one) heats up much faster than the windscreen's glass, creating an optical distortion that makes either straight lines look curved or bowed inwards toward the centre."

So the dots help to lessen this phenomenon, meaning that the driver is actually able to see out of the windscreen by "dissipating the heat and spreading it out evenly."
