Prince Harry's rumoured new book will cast a shadow over an already dark family reunion as he heads to London to reconcile with his father.

The Duke of Sussex immediately flew to the UK after being informed that his father, King Charles, had been diagnosed with cancer. The 39-year-old made the desperate bid to be by the monarch's side - even leaving wife Meghan Markle and their two children behind - as he attempted to build bridges amidst the health crisis that has rocked the Royal Family.

However, his reconciliation with his estranged family, including Prince William, could be overshadowed by reports that Harry is due to release a follow-up to his explosive memoir Spare that was released last year. The tell-all book focused heavily on Harry’s life as a working royal, and even explored his time in the British Army, where he carried out two tours of Afghanistan, as well as a candid story about losing his virginity.

While Harry previously admitted he had left out a number of personal stories for fear of further embarrassment, Buckingham Palace is said to be concerned the father-of-two signed a multi-book deal with Penguin Random House, giving him an opportunity to write a sequel to his controversial memoir.

According to royal biographer Robert Hardman, palace officials are worried Harry - or even Meghan - will release yet another book filled with salacious stories about the monarchy. “For the Palace, the most worrying aspect of the book was the omission of large chunks of more recent events,” he wrote in his latest book, King Charles III: The Inside Story.

“It did not go unnoticed that Harry and Meghan’s wedding, their married life and their eventual departure from the royal world amounted to a small part - less than a fifth - of Prince Harry ’s memoir. This suggested either a sequel or, perhaps a memoir by Meghan in due course,” Robert explained.

In an interview with The Telegraph following the release of Spare, Harry revealed the first draft of his book was 800 pages, and had been cut almost in half by the time it was published to 416 pages. He said he knew he would get “trashed” for including stories about certain family members in the book, but he said it was “impossible” to tell his story without them in it.

“But there are some things that have happened, especially between me and my brother, and to some extent between me and my father, that I just don’t want the world to know. Because I don’t think they would ever forgive me,” Harry confessed, before adding: "It could have been two books, put it that way."
